Welcome to the website of Central Asia Birding

Central Asia Birding offers all-inclusive, high quality bird watching and nature holidays in Central Asia. We organise fixed departure tours as well as private, customized tours for small groups. All tours are lead by local experts or European top-ornithologists, including Arend Wassink author of the book ‘Birds of Kazakhstan’. Central Asia offers various types of interesting habitat, endless steppes, stony and sandy desert, wetlands, rivers, alpine meadows, coniferous forests, Turanga forests and enormous mountain ranges. Being located on the border of two subdivisions makes the avifauna of the countries in Central Asia very attractive for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts in general. Many superb and rare western Palearctic species are relatively easy to spot. Known examples are Steppe Eagle, Pallid Harrier, Sociable Lapwing, Caspian Plover, Black Lark, Güldenstädt’s Redstart and Azure Tit. Great extras are Himalayan Snowcock, White-tailed Rubythroat, White-browed Tit Warbler, Asian Paradise Flycatcher, Yellow-breasted Azure Tit, Asian Crimson-winged Finch and Pander’s Ground Jay!

Ecotourism and protection of habitat is important to us therefore we follow guidelines set up by the International Tourism Society. Secondly we work hand in hand with the ACBK, Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan.

This full-colour book brings together invaluable information on status, habitats, distribution and migration on the birds of Kazakhstan, packed into 288 pages. All 498 species recorded in Kazakhstan (up to early 2007) are covered, and more than 900 maps and graphs give their breeding and temporal distribution. The Birds of Kazakhstan is an essential reference for anyone with an interest in the avifauna of Kazakhstan and Central Asia
